Review of Local Government Electoral Act 2011
The Department commenced a review of the Local Government Electoral Act 2011 on 27 November 2013 that is to include widespread public consultation.
The review will consider a range of issues identified by local governments and the Electoral Commission of Queensland following the 2012 elections.
These include measures to return the option for council Chief Executive Officers to act as the returning officer for their local government election. One of the guiding principles for this review is to ensure governance arrangements that apply to local government are consistent with those applying to the State.
A discussion paper ( 186 KB) has been prepared to support a public consultation process. Please note, the options outlined in the paper do not represent Queensland Government policy and are for consultation purposes only at this point.
Formal comments are invited by Friday, 17 January 2014. All submissions received by this date will be considered and following this, there will be on-going consultation with key stakeholders as legislative amendments are developed.
For further information and to make electronic submissions please contact the Policy Team (send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Queensland Government has developed a series of guides and factsheets to help community engagement practitioners.
